Traditionally our pickles are used to accompany an Indian meal and would be mopped up with a roti on the side of a vegetable dish (Subzee) or with Aloo Parata which is a traditional Punjabi farmers breakfast!

In most Indian restaurants you will be offered lime pickle (our equivalent is our Lemon Ginger & Chilli Pickle) with popadoms.

They go amazingly well with a cheese board – particularly our sweet chilli pickle and lemon pickle. You can even use them to pimp up a sandwich or on the side of potatoes.

how whould you describe tamarinds flavour?

The flavour of tamarind is a distinctive combination of sweet, tangy, and slightly sour with subtle earthy undertones. Here’s how it can be described in detail:

Tangy and Tart: The most prominent flavour profile comes from its natural acidity, primarily due to tartaric acid. This tanginess is refreshing and sharp.

Sweetness: Ripe tamarind has a natural sweetness that balances the sourness, making it a complex and multi-dimensional flavour.

Earthy and Rich: There’s a hint of depth and warmth, almost like a caramelised or molasses-like undertone, which adds complexity to its taste.

Fruity Sourness: The sourness is somewhat similar to lemon or green apple but with a more robust and mellow finish.

Overall, tamarind’s flavour is versatile, making it ideal for both savoury dishes (like curries, sauces, and marinades) and sweet treats (such as chutneys, candies, and drinks). Its tangy kick is also perfect for refreshing beverages like tamarind agua fresca or as a base for Worcestershire sauce.
